Help Build Dr Hebert's Class Library

Hi, my name is Dr Neal Hebert, and I'm fundraising to provide my students with a classroom library filled with the sorts of books that they want to read.

Let me tell you a little bit about my school: Collegiate Baton Rouge is an open-enrollment charter school in Baton Rouge, LA. We are a Title I majority-minority school, and the kids we serve are some of the best kids in the city dealing with problems that kids shouldn't have to deal with - food, housing, electricity, and internet insecurity. To many of my students, school is their safe space and a second home, and I want to make sure that my classroom is filled with books that my kids will love.

My school currently does not have a school library that is accessible to our kids. There are books in every classroom, but we haven't quite been able to get our library together in our modular units outside. As a result, my AP Literature and English IV students are asking for horror novels, science fiction, fantasy - all sorts of things kids love reading but rarely can find in a high school setting. Since many of our kids live so far away from our local libraries, an easy solution to get books in their hands is to secure them myself.

Every single dollar that makes its way to me will be spent on books. I plan on hitting up Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and every used book Web site I can find to pick up books that my kids will love. The books in my classroom library will be open to every student at my school looking for cool, weird things to read: I intend to have everything from comic books to the newest releases I can pick up.
