"Black women have had to develop a larger vision of our society than perhaps any other group. They have had to understand white men, white women, and Black men. And they have had to understand themselves. When Black women win victories, it is a boost for virtually every segment of society." - Angela Davis | Freedom Fighter

It's true! When Black women win, we all win. Which is why, Black women and their children are at the center of this essential and critical economic justice campaign.

We need your help to help Black women and their families not only win, but thrive. We need your help to help Black boys and men survive and thrive.

Below you’ll see a more detailed description of the vision and goals.

***************

The Freedom Fighters School™ serves as the advocacy umbrella for the Justice Is Love Coalition™ mission is to educate and empower Black families to:

1. Learn about, embody, and celebrate their African heritage.
2. Be empowered with knowledge to advocate for themselves within unjust and oppressive systems.
3. Gain skills to effectively navigate systems of oppression.
4. Use their knowledge and voice to eradicate racism and fight for justice, freedom, and Black liberation.
5. To use their natural gifts and talents to be a leader and advocate within their own community.
6. Begin and sustain healing and increase mental, emotional, and physical health.
7. Increase their financial literacy and gain entrepreneurial/business education and skills to establish and maintain economic self-efficacy.
8. Gain knowledge and skills to advocate for their children within oppressive and discriminatory school systems to avoid entrance into the Pre-school to prison pipeline.

The above goals will be achieved through the following Freedom Fighters School™ programs and offerings:

A. Freedom Fighters School™ is an age-appropriate educational and empowerment program for Black youth (ages 8-18). The program teaches Black and African history and provides other learning experiences to give young people the information and tools to love and embrace their Afrocentric heritage while inspiring them to fight for freedom and liberation.

B. Black Liberation Book Club™

A book club with the goals of Enlightenment, Affirmation, and Empowerment.

We believe that reading and engaging in community dialogue—even when we disagree with each other—open the minds and hearts of our people and inspire personal freedom and collective liberation. And that is what the Black Liberation Book Club™ is all about: Enlightenment, Affirmation, and Empowerment.

C. Black Business Lab™

The Black Business Lab™ is rooted in the Kwanzaa principle of Ujima, which emphasizes collective work and responsibility. Ujima calls us to “reach one and teach one” and work together for collective gain. The Black Business Lab™ is a learning community created especially for Black business owners, whether it’s your dream to be a business owner or you are a business owner who desires to level up and glow up. Through mentoring, coaching, and education, the Black Business Lab™ helps entrepreneurs and business owners master the 3 B’s: Business Basics, Branding, and Bankability.

We offer in-person and online educational opportunities to learn how to start a business, take businesses to the next level, and earn the money they desire. Participants can access video lessons, pre-recorded audio, and webinars to learn how to create and amplify their brand, create an attractive marketing message, and obtain and retain clients/customers to increase their revenue.

D. Personal and Community Healing Sessions

Catrice has created courses specifically designed to help Black people as they walk the pathway of their personal healing journeys. They learn to deepen their inner work to create, cultivate and embody greater love, peace, and happiness in their life. It’s our hope that Black folks will fight for their healing, peace, and joy just as much as they fight for justice, freedom, and liberation! By prioritizing their personal inner (healing) work, they’ll be mentally, emotionally, and physically stronger to empower the Black collective to move the movement for Black lives forward to attain community unity, freedom, and liberation.

E. Emotional Equity Advocacy for (K-12) Students: Helping Parents and Caregivers Advocate for Education Equity.

As a mother and education equity advocate, Catrice understands how Black children are often left out of and/or criminalized in the K-12 educational system. She uses her knowledge and experience to support and advocate for Black parents and students dealing with racial inequities and educational racism. Catrice provides education, resources and advocacy to students and parents/caregivers dealing with educational racism.

Catrice is a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with 20+ years of mental health and counseling experience. She understands racial trauma and mental health issues, and she uses that expertise to support Black activists, leaders, and racial justice organizers. Catrice is especially versed in helping such community leaders navigate the emotional complexities of racial justice advocacy so they can become emotionally fortified to thrive and continue the fight for justice and liberation.

She helps Black folks...
• Understand the reality of racial battle fatigue so they can survive and thrive.
• Work through personal and collective mental health issues.
• Navigate the system of mental health and respond to the lack of race-conscious mental health services.

The school-to-prison pipeline represents a troubling convergence within the American educational system, where educational policies intersect with societal issues, leading many students, particularly those of color, into the criminal justice system. Central to this crisis is the stark reality that Black students, despite being a minority in the student population, face disproportionately higher rates of disciplinary actions and subsequent legal issues.

The Alarming Statistics

Black students represent only 15% of the student body in U.S. public schools, yet they account for 33% of all arrests made by school resource officers (SROs). Furthermore, while Black boys and girls are overrepresented among students who are suspended and expelled, Black boys are nearly two times more likely than White boys to receive an out-of-school suspension or an expulsion.
