Background

With Guru Maharaj’s blessings, Gurudwara Sri Guru Nanak Darbar Halifax was established in October 2023, operating at multiple rented facilities. Since then, it has been a hub for spiritual growth, Sewa (selfless service) and community engagement, serving as a center for Sikh values and teachings.

The Gurudwara Sahib operates uniquely, where the organization is led by five Gursikhs (Panj Pyare) within the discipline of Gurmat. With their guidance, a team of Sewadars (volunteers) ensures the seamless functioning of the Gurudwara, embodying the true spirit of nishkaam sewa.

Current Initiatives

Twice a week Diwans, weekly house programs, monthly Rainsabai Katha/Kirtan programs, Kids Gurmukhi/Punjabi classes, Kirtan classes, Gurbani Santhya classes, Gurmat/Q&A sessions, Newcomer assistance, and various visits by prominent Sikh parcharaks.

The Need for a Permanent space for Gurudwara Sahib

Currently, the Gurudwara Sahib functions in rented facilities, which limits the scope of seva and programs. A permanent Darbar Hall and Langar Hall will allow us to:

1. Host larger gatherings for Gurpurabs, Amrit Sanchar, and other events.

2. Provide a consistent and welcoming space for Sikh education, cultural preservation, Gatka classes for kids and spiritual practices.

3. Offer support and integration for newcomers into the local community.

Current Property Status

We have identified a property suitable for a permanent Gurudwara Sahib location which already has space for Diwan hall and Langar hall, other classes and large space for parking as well. The purchase process is underway, but to proceed further, the following is required:

Immediate Funds Needed: To finalize the transaction, $500,000 is required ASAP!

Closing Date: The closing date for the property is Feb 6th, 2025.
