Help Build A Home for Two Haitian Students

Donation protected
As some may know, recent political unrest in Haiti has resulted in an exacerbation of the already prevalent poor living conditions and extreme poverty.  Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and without humanitarian aid will further put its vulnerable population at risk of hunger, disease, and violence.

Clean Hands For Haiti, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, is working to mitigate some of the current issues at hand.  Its founder, Raymond Abellard, aims to use his organization to uplift the youth of Haiti through sports and education.  Over the past decade, some of Clean Hands For Haiti's work has included:  Providing tuition for Haitian students, operating a community center which provides tutoring help and other educational activities,  providing local dental and medical help, feeding the local population,  running basketball/soccer clinics in coordination with Haitian coaches, and assisting in Hurricane Irma relief.

The CLH students, pictured, are siblings who receive tuition assistance from Clean Hands For Haiti and attend the after school tutoring program at the community center. Like many other students, the two siblings live in slums-closely packed decrepit housing units, which lack basic utilities such as lighting and plumbing. Although they are hardworking, intelligent students, their living conditions are not conducive to academic success and are also unsafe in many different regards.  Recently their home was flooded, damaging all of the siblings' belongings and further weakening the infrastructure of their house.  Pictured, are photos of the two students' family home, as well as their kitchen and bathroom.  As they have done for other students, Clean Hands for Haiti hopes to be able to raise enough money so that they could receive a much needed improvement in their living situation.

Pictured is the site where the construction will occur, as soon as there is enough funding for the project.  Donations from this page will go towards building a larger and more structurally sound house that can properly fit the siblings' family safely.  A more suitable cooking space and sanitary bathroom area will be built as well.  Money will be used to purchase construction equipment- such as concrete, wood, steel, and tools-, hire a contractor, and to recycle some of the materials from the previous house.

I personally have worked in the community center where the two students study on two separate community service trips. I have additionally raised $5,000 for the organization through a school fundraising event.  The community center's efforts, brought by Clean Hands for Haiti, have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the local population.  Not only are the kids who attend the tutoring program good students, but they are all eager, friendly individuals who are doing their best to improve the living standards for themselves and their families.  Your help, big or small,  will not only guide students like the two siblings to a better life, but will continue to encourage the positive work done by groups such as Clean Hands for Haiti.  Thank You, your contribution means a lot to me and everyone else affiliated with the organization.
