Help Build Infrastructure for MAMAs Detox Center
Donation protected
Mothers Against Meth Alliance has acquired two acres of land to build a healing center! We are raising $50,000 to build a beautiful naturally built structure that will act as a detox and healing center for Indigenous people struggling with addiction.
The mission of Mothers Against Meth Alliance (M.A.M.A) is to provide competent and compassionate advocacy, engage in community action, drug education, and to provide rehabilitation resources that reflect the traditions and customs of the Lakota and Dakota people. M.A.M.A. helps all those affected by methamphetamine addiction, their families, and their communities in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods on the reservation.
M.A.M.A. was started by Julie Dine Richards, aka Mama Julz, a member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe. She is a frontline water protector, land defender, and the founder of the Mothers Against Meth Alliance. She educates on the troubling connection between meth addiction, oil extraction, and the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. Mama Julz gives presentations around the world regarding methamphetamine awareness.
The impact of addiction and the historical trauma of colonization and poverty in Indigenous communities cannot be overstated. Mothers Against Meth Alliance has emerged as a beacon of hope, providing essential support and resources to those who are navigating the complex journey of recovery.
A group of 20 people are planning to go to the 2 acres of land that Mothers Against Meth Alliance has acquired to build a yurt platform and yurt, and a cabin. Please donate generously to make this trip impactful and to advance Mama’s cause to heal her people. Your contribution will play a pivotal role in enabling Mothers Against Meth Alliance to expand its reach, enhance its programs, and provide even more comprehensive assistance to Indigenous individuals and families struggling with addiction. Together, we can help Mama Julz make a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by the devastating consequences of methamphetamine use and the lasting effects of colonization.
"I am an Oglala Lakota woman. I have been fighting for my people so we can overcome the battle of the meth addiction and alcoholism on the reservation that is killing our people. I realize I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my ancestors. I was given this path to walk, to take care of the children and my community as there is little support from the Tribe. The denial and fear is real and my prayer is to see my people come together and heal. We must all rise up.”
