Help Build Pickleball Courts for Iowa County
Donation protected
Hello. I'm Michael Mulligan. I live in Williamsburg, Iowa with my bride of 35 years, Helen. We discovered something fun we can both do together, and I must admit it's rather addicting. Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the US. It's a great way to meet new people, exercise, and have fun while burning calories.
Our community formed Pickleball Iowa County, a 501c3 public charity, and approached City Hall about building 4 outdoor pickleball courts on city-owned property where our recreation center is located. There is indoor pickleball play during the week but nothing on the weekends due to the abundant youth programs that use the multi-use facility. That means the working class cannot participate unless we add outdoor courts near the recreation center building.
Our goal is to offer free outdoor pickleball for people of all ages and ability levels. We want grandparents to have an opportunity to play pickleball with their grandkids in a parklike setting. The city will allow us to build the courts provided we can raise the funds. Our group now boasts 241 members. Every week we are getting new inquiries about our project.
Volunteers donated their time and talent to get our social media sites going. Local businesses and farmers are joining our fundraising efforts. Matching grants are available once we secure enough funds to show we are financially sound.
The approximate cost for the four outdoor pickleball courts is $200,000. Our immediate need is to raise funds for engineering, a requirement to build on city-owned property. We need your help to make our community the best it can be. Maybe you will drop in and play pickleball with your family when the courts are built. These are the friendliest people you will ever meet, the epitome of Iowa nice. Thank you for helping us enhance our community.
