Help build the Athens Community Farm
Donation protected
We’re building a community micro-farm in the Village of Athens! Athens is surrounded by farms but there’s not a place in walking distance to get access to fresh produce like lettuce. We want to change that.
We’re going to grow and distribute fruits, vegetables, and herbs to people in the Village and Town of Athens. It will be built and maintained by community volunteers and shares of the harvest will be available to anyone who wants them at no cost through pickup stops and local organizations.
The Village board is excited about the project and has graciously provided space behind the firehouse and in front of the new DPW building on Third Street. The farm will be made up of 15 beds and surrounded by fencing to keep animals out. We’re asking for donations to purchase lumber and fencing from local suppliers.
We’ve drawn inspiration and advice from the Catskill Micro-farm and Coxsackie Community Garden and we’re excited to follow in their footsteps. With a little bit more help from the community, we’ll be ready to start building this month!
Thank you! We can’t wait to share this space with you!
