Help build The Kaleidocube art piece
Donation protected
It's 2024 and we are trying to build our first large-scale art piece: The Kaleidocube.
What is the Kaleidocube?
In short, the piece is a ~3 foot cube suspended from a tripod emitting cool lights to look at on all six of its faces. This piece works by shooting colored light through reflective tubes to mix and diffuse the colors.
History of the project:
After a visit to the SF Exploratorium in early 2023, we were inspired to create an LED based art piece. That spring we built a prototype and debuted this piece as renegade art at unSCruz, the Santa Cruz regional burn, where it was a great success. After building this ~2-dimensional prototype, we wanted to take it to the next level and are building a 3D cube using the same light diffusion technique we employed in our prototype.
We are building the Kaleidocube this spring with the intention of bringing it to Burning Man 2024 at Black Rock City in August. We made it through the first round of the Burning Man grant process but didn't get through the final round, that being said, we still want to build it!

How you can can contribute to this art:
- Financial contributions (any amount is helpful!)
- Lend a hand at a build day this spring and make the project happen! Sign up for our mailing list
How will the funds be used:
For the most part, we are raising funds to purchase building materials and a few specialty tools. Our itemized budget is available here .
In the event that we raise more money than we spend on this piece, all excess funds will be donated to a local charity supporting queer and trans people, suggestions welcome! <3
