Hi my friends. I have some very exciting news to share and am asking for some help. I've been kind of nervous to post this because it seems a little indulgent however, many artists, use crowdfunding as a way to keep producing art.
A huge dream of mine is coming true. I've been accepted into a music academy. When I applied I didn't think I'd actually get a call and an interview so quickly. But, my friends, I'M IN!
The School is called Cosmic Academy and they have incredible reviews and their students have huge success and I'm beyond excited to move forward with music production.
Since I started dj'ing, I had wanted to learn to make music but was told that it would never happen. I don't know why I let that stop me because I do have a singing background as well as a theatre background. Also, mixing records (without all of the tools that djs have now) meant that one has to have an ear.
I've been dj'ing since I was about 21, first starting out with punk rock (at the Blue Max in Kamloops) and then after backpacking across Europe, I fell in love with electronic dance music (although, I loved Disco, New Wave and 90s dance music long before that). A couple of years after returning from Europe I went to a house party and saw a young fellow using turntable and mixing all kinds of music but mostly something "house" music. I asked him if he would sell his turntables to me and he said yes! And that is how it all began.
Shortly after that my Step - Mom told me that she had some records that she was thinking of taking to the Thrift store but she knew probably had some value, as they were given to her from a boyfriend in the 70s who worked at a radio station. I picked those up and not long after that the annual "Gliiterball" was birthed. That Disco and Funk party went on for 12 years. In fact, I just booked a Disco / Funk party for the end of May called Boogie Wonderland. Learning how to mix those records was probably the best lessons in dj'ing I have ever had. Most of those records were recorded with live musicians. So mixing record to record to record was very challenging.
So, here I am, asking for your support.
I am also using the platform Patreon. There you can choose a monthly membership. Because I have training in multiple modalities, I am offering a multitude of memberships that range from Holistic Nutrition, Neuro-Linguistic Programming to Social Media Services. And of course Music.
You can find that at http://www.sprout.love
6 years ago I opened a Patreon account to support me through a very tough time with my health. I wanted it to be a resource for people going through Lyme, co-infections, PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. I've decided to leave those posts up. Those tools really helped me and still do.
My MO has always been about co-creating community, giving back, supporting non profits etc. So as I develop my "Sound"... Probably more like Sounds, and brand, you'll always see it connected to a purpose, foundation or ways to give back.
The Academy Tuition is 10K. So about $1800 / month.
I'll require a program to make the music plus added equipment and eventually want to keep building on to my studio. My projects will always be connected to a bigger purpose of giving back, creating community events and I'll also be hiring singers and musicians.
Thank you in advance for your your support. I truly appreciate it all.
