Help Build the Virtual Hub for KC Theatre

A starting goal of $500 - but the more we raise, the bigger and cooler this thing can be!
Kansas City’s arts scene is thriving, and theatre is right at the heart of it. But when I moved here this year to pursue theatre work, I discovered a challenge: finding audition opportunities. Most of us rely on scattered Facebook posts, digging through theatre websites, or just hoping the right text message comes our way. It’s frustrating, inefficient, and easy to miss out on opportunities.
What I wanted – and what I realized we’re missing – is a centralized hub for all things theatre industry in Kansas City. A place where actors, techies, and theatre professionals can easily find opportunities. So I decided to create it myself.
I bought the domain kctheatre.info to start building exactly that: a central audition posting website. My ultimate vision is even bigger – a platform for all kinds of theatre opportunities, from technician and designer gigs to production showcases, maybe ticket sales - I’d even love to support the community further by collaborating with local artists on cool theatre-themed merch, all while celebrating the amazing talent in KC.
But first, I need to start small and get the basics right.
Here’s the catch: building and hosting a website isn’t free. Between domain costs, server hosting, managing storage for images and videos, and potentially hiring professionals to help bring this vision to life, the expenses add up.
Now, I’ll be honest: I’m not a professional web developer. I know a little about programming and web design, but intricate website management is a whole different ballgame. If you’re curious about what I’ve been able to do so far, you can check out my personal site at sterlingmoliver.com. It’s a solid start, but to take this project to the level it needs to be for our community, I’ll likely need help from skilled professionals as it grows.
Even just keeping the site running will cost around $200 a year.
That’s where you come in. I’m launching this GoFundMe campaign to raise $500, which will cover at least two years of operation. It’ll give me the time and resources to get the site up and running, find sponsors, and turn this into a sustainable resource for the Kansas City theatre community. And if we can raise more, that means more features and more things will come more quickly, which will be really cool! And to be clear, if I’m able to, the goal is to try and get this thing going over the next few weeks and have a basic version of it running in January for 2025.
