Sometimes life throws challenges at the most resilient among us—people like Bulent Gurcan, who many of you may know as the “Barehanded Killer” from Discovery Channel's Naked & Afraid. Bulent has always faced adversity head-on, but now he needs a little help from his community.

This past summer, Bulent put his heart into purchasing a small but special home in the serene woods of Georgia—a space that represented his dream of living creatively and simply. Bulent lives frugally, dedicating his energy to his true passions: directing, writing, and producing stories that inspire. Every penny he saved went into his home purchase this summer, making his dream a reality, and for a few precious months, he was able to enjoy his quiet retreat in nature.

Then Hurricane Helene struck.

The storm left his house in ruins. It wasn't just damage—it was total destruction. Massive trees and limbs collapsed onto the house, breaking it in half and toppling it from its pylons. With his type of housing being uninsurable in this location, Bulent’s hard-earned dream was swept away in an instant.

Bulent would never ask for help like this on his own—those who know him understand that. Despite what many might think from seeing him on TV, Bulent lives simply, and his heart lies with his craft, not material wealth. While he remains determined, the financial reality of razing the destroyed structure and starting again is overwhelming.

Hi, I’m Alyssa, and I'm a friend of Bulent’s. Like many of you, I first knew Bulent from watching him on Naked & Afraid, where his grit and "Bulent-isms" made an impression. Living in the same area of the Pacific Northwest at the time, I reached out, and we met for coffee. With our shared backgrounds—including attending the same law enforcement academy just a few months apart—we connected quickly and became hiking partners and friends.

Bulent is exactly as authentic in person as you see on TV—honest, straightforward, and selfless. He’s someone who puts others before himself, which is why I’ve taken it upon myself to start this campaign. Bulent would never ask for help on his own, but I know how much this support could mean to him during such a difficult time. I’m organizing this fundraiser with his full knowledge and permission, and every dollar raised will go directly to helping Bulent rebuild.
