News Coverage of 8 family members hit with Covid 19
CNN Coverage with Don Lemon

The Burke & Matias family have always given a helping hand to those who they don't know. Sofia Burke is a nurse that took care of patients with Covid-19 at a nursing home in New Jersey.  She was there when the first wave of Covid-19 hit nursing homes the hardest. She helped patients recover from the virus but also brought comfort to those that took their final breath.

Sofia followed all safety protocols at work which kept all of her family members safe at home.

But a single act of generosity by Sofia's mother changed all of that. Sofia’s mother gave a car ride to an elderly friend who unknowingly was infected. The Covid-19 virus quickly spread into Sofia Burke's 8-member household. From her youngest 2-year-old daughter (Elena) to her oldest member, Sofia's Father 93-year-old (Otto) who died this past week due to Covid-19.

Before Thanksgiving, all eight members of Sofia’s household had contracted Covid-19. Sofia's father passed away while both were still in the hospital. Her mother was discharged after spending six days in the hospital. She still needs supplemental oxygen pumps close by. Every other member of the family — Sofia’s brother, her husband, and her three children, ages 2, 6, and 20 are recovering from the after effects of COVID-19.   Her 2-year-old daughter who has diabetes was taken to the pediatric emergency room with a recurring high fever. She was treated to lower her fever but Sofia still fears complications.

Unfortunately, Sofia still remains in the hospital as she is finding it difficult to fight off the virus. She spent Thanksgiving at the hospital away from her family but is still in good spirits.  Sofia wants to express her gratitude to those people who are helping her and her family:

“I want to say thank you to this hospital for everything they have done for me and my family”  “I want to say thank you to all the front-line people working so hard.” (USA Today article )

Many of you already know that medical treatments are way too expensive in USA and if you have limited health insurance coverage the burden becomes hard to overcome. We are here to help raise funds for the Burke & Matias's family medical expenses and as well as funeral costs for the passing of Sofia's father. Any remaining funds will be used to help Sofia's mother with her breathing complications and her 2-year-old daughters diabetes treatment expenses.

Please keep Sofia and her family in your prayers.

Thank you for your generosity and help!
