Help Butch with his lung transplant
Donation protected
We are creating this GoFundMe for our longtime friend and neighbor, Butch Walters. On December 20, 2020, Butch and his wife, Sherri, tested positive for COVID 19. On Christmas Eve of 2020, Butch was hospitalized due to COVID complications. He came home on December 30, 2020 dependent on oxygen 24 hours a day. On February 7, 2021, Butch was rushed to CMC Main where lung complications due to the virus kept him hospitalized for 42 days. He now has permanent lung damage caused by pulmonary fibrosis. COVID has ruined his lungs to the point now, he only has 45% lung capacity.
Recently, he has been referred to Duke University Medical Center and is being evaluated for a lung transplant as the pulmonary fibrosis is not reversible. The transplant process requires pre-surgery rehab at Duke followed by being put on the transplant wait list. Then eventually post-surgery rehab. This process averages about 6 to 8 months. Butch and Sherri
will have to relocate to Durham for all of this. They are in need of money for medical bills, insurance, relocating expenses, along with expenses at their home in Gastonia while at Duke. A lung transplant is all that can be done to get Butch back to a normal life, breathing on his own.
COVID has directly affected us all in some way, whether you’ve experienced the virus firsthand or know someone else who has. It affects everyone differently and unfortunately, just like many in Butch’s case, it has caused permanent damage. There is a need here and we want to help meet that need for this wonderful family. Your prayers and thoughts and any contribution will be greatly appreciated.
