Help Byron’s Family Start Over After Wildfire Loss

My name is Rachel Norrod, and on January 8, my brother Byron, his wife Cathy, son Byron Jr., and rescue dog Luke, lost their Altadena home to the California wildfires.

They were fortunate to have evacuated in time to save their lives and two cars filled with belongings, but returned to find their property utterly destroyed. (The photo and video were taken the day after their evacuation.)

Unfortunately, their insurance company had recently canceled their home policy — California is currently having an insurance crisis, with State Farm alone having canceled 72,000 policies in the state due to the frequent occurrences of natural disasters, including wildfires. They had yet to find a replacement policy.

They're thankful to have friends whose home was not damaged who have given them a place to stay for the next few days. Beyond that, they're not sure what they're going to do — start over, yes. But where and how?

They have amazing attitudes, which I so admire; I'm not certain I'd handle the situation so graciously. They're putting their trust in God, but are also beginning to plan on how to move forward from this devastating disaster.
