Help Caleb Overcome Spinal Injury
Donation protected
On the evening of October 21st, Caleb walked onto the soccer field at his university just as he had done on countless other soccer fields since the age of 3. Soccer was the air he breathed and the game he loved. Only this time, Caleb would leave the field on a stretcher, gasping for breath, feeling nothing—no arms, no legs, no body.
Scans and X-rays revealed our worst fear—two breaks in his neck (C5 & C6). The trauma necessitated moving him to a larger hospital better equipped to deal with serious neurological issues. The following morning, surgeons performed emergency spinal fusion surgery in order to secure his vertebrae.
As his parents, we grasped for one thing—hope. Hope that he would recover feeling, hope that one day he would be able to move his fingers, his arms, his legs. The surgeon had none to give. Studies show that many of those with Caleb’s injury do not survive, are permanently paralyzed, or suffer some type of long-term disability.
But we know that Caleb is in the hands of the Great Physician and there we have found comfort and strength. Caleb recently graduated from the hospital stage and has begun the long journey of physical and occupational therapy. He’s a fighter! And like Caleb, all of our family have had their lives turned upside down and sideways, as I’m sure you can imagine. Medical bills weigh heavily upon us as the pile grows. Many of you have asked how you can help, and this is one way that would make our burden lighter. Even a small donation would mean the world to us as we continue in these uncharted waters. Thank you for your friendship and prayers and being cheerleaders for Caleb as he travels the path to recovery.
