Help Calvin Cross the Finish Line to Recovery
Donation protected
Hello,
Over the past few days, several people have reached out asking me to create a GoFundMe page to help with my son Calvin’s final months of recovery. I’ve been hesitant to ask for help, but we’ve reached a point where it’s my last option—and I want to share his story with you.
Calvin’s Journey: A Turning Point
On June 15, 2024, Calvin entered Mountain Valley Recovery in Holden, Utah—a place that helps young adult men struggling with addiction find lasting recovery. Their mission is to guide individuals toward self-worth, confidence, and a clear path forward through evidence-based care, real-life success stories, and expert, licensed staff. When Calvin leaves, he won’t just have survived this struggle—he’ll have built a foundation for a thriving life.
Calvin’s struggle with addiction has been part of our lives for years. He battles depression, anxiety, and alcohol addiction. There were many cries for help along the way, but on March 15, 2024, something changed. Calvin had a wake-up call and realized he needed a new direction. He took the first steps himself—researching options, making the calls, and ultimately finding Mountain Valley Recovery. From that moment, we knew this was the right place for him.
The Progress He’s Made
Over the past seven months, Calvin has worked hard—really hard. He’s committed to the program, and today, he’s in the final phase of recovery. But to finish strong, he needs a bit more time, and unfortunately, the financial resources we’ve been relying on have run out.
I’ve already paid over $52,000 out of pocket, using my 401(k) savings and any cash reserves I had. Calvin qualified for Medicaid, but since he turned 26 and aged out of our family health plan just a few months before entering treatment, the process has been complicated. Although Medicaid approved coverage, the amount they offered only covered a third of the cost, which the program couldn’t accept. I made the difficult decision to move forward and pay out of pocket because Calvin couldn’t afford to wait any longer.
Now, as he enters the final, crucial stretch of recovery, we’re facing a financial gap that could result in his discharge if it’s not resolved. Without your help, Calvin may be sent home before he’s ready, which could risk undoing all the progress he’s worked so hard to achieve.
How You Can Help
We’re asking for help to cover these final months so that Calvin can complete the program and fully transition to the next stage of his recovery. If we raise more funds than we need, I will donate the extra amount to Mountain Valley Recovery’s scholarship fund, to help other families in similar situations access the support they desperately need.
We’ve also submitted a request to Medicaid to see if they’ll reconsider covering the last few months of his program. While I remain hopeful, I know how uncertain things can be with the current situation in Washington, D.C.
Gratitude for Your Support
I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has supported us so far. This journey has been incredibly difficult, but knowing we have friends, family, and advocates standing by us means the world to me. Please know that this isn’t just about Calvin—it’s about the countless families who face similar challenges every day.
Thank you for being part of this story. Thank you for helping give Calvin a real chance at lasting recovery. Every dollar counts, and every message of encouragement fuels my hope.
With love. gratitude and appreciation,
