What started off as a great and beautiful day celebrating a new baby boy joining our family, quickly turned into the worst day of our family's lives!!! On October 27th around 3-4am Cameran Holt (19 years old) was out with her older sister and cousin enjoying their night. They were caught in the middle of 2 groups of guys fighting. There was gunfire and Cameran was shot, the bullet hitting her brain stem and going through her C2 &3 in her neck. The brain stem is a vital part of the central nervous system that connects the brain to the spinal cord. It is responsible for controlling many basic life functions, including breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. The brain stem also serves as a pathway for nerve signals between the brain and the rest of the body. Overall, it is essential for maintaining basic bodily functions and facilitating communication between different parts of the nervous system. With Cameran being shot in such a severe spot there is not much the doctors suggest doing but waiting for the Spinal Shock to wear off and some of the swelling to go away so they can see the extent of her injuries. They cannot remove the bullet or fragments because of its location in the brain stem. They cannot get a clear picture of the injuries because an MRI would cause more damage. All the doctors could do was clean out the wound and stitch up the hole in her neck. She is currently in the ICU on life support. The life support is helping her breathe because without the tubes she is unable to breathe by herself. Each side of Cameran’s lungs also had tubes in them to help drain any fluid that may be caught in her lungs, one has been removed and the other will be removed in a few days. All we can do now is wait.... wait to see the damage after swelling has gone down. She did start to breath a little on her own but is still depending on the life support to keep her going. We are hoping that soon they can put a trach in so that the tubes can be removed from her mouth and she can be more comfortable.
Cameran is the most loving and selfless person you would ever meet. She wouldn't hesitate to drop anything to help someone in need or stand up for all her siblings. If we ever needed anything Cameran was one call away. She was also always friends with the most wholesome people who meant the world to her. She was the best Auntie to our nephew Amari and he truly loves her like she is another mother to him. I don't think there was one person more excited & ready to meet the new baby boy in the family like Cameran was. Cameran loves her Family and Friends like crazy and adored animals and the kids at her Center where she currently works for special needs children. In result to Cameran's injuries, we are asking you to donate anything possible for the cost of her hospital bills and anything she may need in the coming days, weeks and so forth. This is a true tragedy what happened to my beautiful sister and we all wish we could make this go away. Unfortunately, Cameran has a long recovery road ahead of her and we are no where out of the woods yet. We are still hoping for the best but reality is we could still lose her. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. Any donations will be used strictly for Cameran's care and other expenses.
