Help Canadian Boy AKA Zoiea Kashief reunite with his mother!

Dear reader,
This is the sad and sensitive story of Zoiea Kashief Mahamud who is also known as “Canadian Boy”.
Zoiea is born on August 2004 in Toronto, Ontario to a young mother named Khadra. At the time of birth, The mother was a young refugee who escaped the deep and devastating war in Somalia with her family and sleeked refuge in Canada. Khadra was a young and vibrant young lady who wanted to thrive & move forward in life. Zoiea’s mother is originally from Somalia and also from a strict, well-known & respected family clan.
In 2003 Khadra met a young gentleman who is African Canadian and started a relationship. The family didn’t accept, agree nor consent to the union that resulted in complete fallout between the family. The father viewed the relationship as a betrayal of the family’s values, fear of cultural differences and most of all, concern about what others will think. Despite alienation from her family, Khadra managed to give birth to a beautiful & healthy baby boy whom she named “Zoiea”. The partner was happy regardless of the cultural divide, he loved her deeply and wanted to support her through the turmoil, however that didn’t last very long as she fell into depression and needed her family.
To control her, the family convinces her to leave the country, sending her to Somalia under the guise of “taking care of herself” or “sorting things out.” They wanted to isolate her from her partner, and she’s confined to a secluded, locked environment, away from all communication with the outside world somewhere in Somalia “Jowhar”. Khadra was also forced to stay in an arranged marriage. His siblings, who were born as part of this marriage, are victims of the same cultural and familial pressures that have kept his mother trapped. The son realizes that his mother’s freedom is tied to his siblings’ futures as well. As the years pass, Zoiea grows older, he begins to understand the full extent of the abuse his mother suffered. He’s seen the scars, the emotional toll, and the way his mother’s life was stripped away from her by her family. His entire life has been marked by this trauma & the emotional scars of knowing she was trapped.
The family might have done everything to make sure his mother’s existence is erased, and they likely keep tight control over the situation to prevent any information from leaking. The son might need to fight through layers of lies, manipulation, and possibly even outright violence to get the information he needs. This could involve tracking down family members who may have knowledge but are too scared to speak out or connecting with people who knew his mother before her abduction.
The son turns to social media as a tool for both survival and activism. With thousands of people emailing the Canadian embassy, the son’s message starts to spread like wildfire. The media picks up the story, and the Canadian government can no longer ignore the growing outcry. This public attention helps him to get the necessary leverage to be brought back to Canada. It’s a victory for him, but it’s also only the first step in a much larger, more complex fight for his mother’s freedom. On one hand, he’s relieved to be in a safe place, free from the clutches of his family’s control. On the other, there’s the overwhelming pressure to rescue his mother and siblings, knowing that they are still trapped in Somalia. He’s also torn between gratitude and guilt—he’s safe, but his mother and siblings are still suffering.
Zoiea Khashief's journey to reunite with his mother and siblings is not just one of emotional strength but also of logistical determination. Financial support will be crucial at every stage—whether it’s covering the costs of their escape, providing shelter, or resettling them in Canada. This family needs our help today more than ever. The money raised will go directly towards covering the costs of their rescue, legal battles, medical treatment, and shelter etc...
Every donation helps us get closer to reuniting this family. The more people who hear about this story, the bigger the network of support. Sharing on social media, telling friends and family, and even sharing with organizations that focus on human rights or family reunification can spread the word far and wide. Every dollar raised will go toward the crucial costs of rescuing the family. Even small contributions add up to make a huge difference. Sometimes, emotional support can be just as important. If you're unable to donate financially, offering words of encouragement, please share this page.
Let’s stand together for human rights, for family, and for the belief that no one should ever have to suffer in silence or be separated from those they love. The path to freedom and healing starts with us—let’s help Zoiea reunite with his family and let’s help them find their way home!
Thank you for being a part of this journey. Your involvement is invaluable, and your support will bring hope and change to a family in desperate need.
