Help Cancer Survivor & Author Pamela Clare

Hi all! Three of us—Katie Reus, Toni Anderson and Kaylea Cross—are setting up this GoFundMe for cancer survivor and romance author Pamela Clare. She’s been struggling with far too many medical issues spanning back to her cancer diagnosis years ago, and now it’s become a snowball of bills she can’t keep up with. We’re hoping the amazing romance community will come together and help her out.

As some of you may know, in 2014 author Pamela Clare was diagnosed with estrogen-positive breast cancer. She had bilateral mastectomies, chemo, and radiation, and has thankfully been cancer-free since. She’s a survivor and a kind, passionate, talented author.

Unfortunately, there has been little let-up in her medical bills. In the last year, she’s dealt with huge medical expenses due to a myriad of health issues related to her previous cancer treatments. She has dental surgery scheduled in December and another in the New Year, both directly related to the effects of prior radiation. And none of this is covered by her dental insurance.

Since July, she’s had ongoing infections that were so severe that no medication has helped. These infections have led to more infections that her body simply can’t kick, which means she’s been in a state of constant pain and fatigue. As a result, she is struggling to write. As an indie author, if she doesn’t write, she doesn’t eat. Then in September, one of her infections was so bad she passed out and sustained a head injury that put her in the hospital. This resulted in more tests and 36-hour monitoring at the hospital—adding to her medical bills.

Since then, she’d been struggling with post-concussive syndrome which has left her unable to work. She is currently undergoing physical and hormonal therapy, but in the meantime, the UTIs and other infections continue to rage. The hormonal device that works for her is sadly not covered by her insurance and alone costs $700-$800 every three months.

She’s spent thousands upon thousands out of pocket for health issues (plus her monthly premium) and everything continues to pile up. It’s been impossible for her to climb out of this hole, especially since she’s lost months of writing time while going through all this. Even with a supportive family and friends, this is too much for anyone to bear.

We are hoping that the Romance community will come together to help someone who has been a stalwart advocate for feminists and the Romance genre. At this rate she’s not going to be able to keep a roof over her head, much less pay her bills without help. All funds will go directly to Pamela to use to pay off her medical bills and keep her house.
