I am Santiago, Oliver and Christy's close friend. It pains me and our community that their world is being taken away from them.
For the last nine months, our dear friends Christy and Oliver have been caring for two beautiful young girls. The 3- and 1-year-olds had faced neglect and unsafe conditions, arriving with limited social and language skills. Over these months, they were deeply loved, nurtured, and had blossomed in their care, becoming happy and thriving.
However, last week, the girls were suddenly removed by the ministry and relocated to a very remote area on Vancouver Island to comply with government regulations. Despite the efforts of the chief of their community and an advocate for Indigenous children, this traumatic move could not be prevented.
Christy and Oliver left the next day to meet with the chief, at his invitation. They have paused their personal and professional lives to stay close by, hoping to reunite with the girls. Any contribution toward their unexpected and urgent expenses during this difficult time would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to hear their story.
