Help Canelo Find a Diagnosis

Who is Canelo:

Canelo is the core of my and my family’s lives. He’s the silliest and happiest dog I know who hates birds but loves people more than anything. He’s going to be turning 4 in late April which is something that I can’t wrap my head around. It feels like not more than a year could’ve gone by from the day we went to go pick a Doberman Lab mix out of a cardboard box. I hope that can begin to simply touch on how much we love and care for him.

 His Journey to a Diagnosis

On Saturday morning, the 18th of February, I noticed he was dragging his front right paw. It quickly escalated when later that same day he was bumping into walls and furniture to eventually falling down completely. The next morning we took him to an ER Clinic where he was X-rayed and they said it may just be a tendon or muscle so he was medicated for that. He had an upset stomach from the medication but it seemed to make him better. We scheduled an appointment with his regular vet the 9th of March at which point he was medicated for vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea. Things had seemed to be going fine when on the 11th of March we were taking him for a routine shower and things took a sudden decline. As soon as we stepped out the car I knew something was wrong, he couldn’t seem to walk straight and began to topple over like last time. It was so drastic that we couldn’t see the bath to completion and called his vet immediately. When we were referred to a neurologist is when the worst started racing through our minds. After spending so much money already for other treatments we thought would help but didn’t, it was a major financial blow.

On the 13th of March (the day of this posting) Canelo underwent MRI imaging of his brain and spine and had a spinal fluid sample taken for testing. There was an abnormal spot seen in his brain stem which can be anything from an autoimmune condition, rare fungal infection, or tumor. This is the closest that we’ve gotten to having an answer to what was actually wrong with Canelo. After all this we’ve been left with a $5,000 bill still with no certainty of what we’re dealing with or the treatments that he’ll be needed going forward. You’re generosity may be what allows canelo to keep on enjoying life.

Our Thanks

I truly can’t begin to express how appreciative and grateful I am for you even just taking the time to stop and look over this post. Anything, any dollar amount or sharing will be appreciated with utmost gratitude. Thank you all for reading about Canelo’s story and helping us out. Without compassionate people like you I don’t know where we would be right now.
