Help Cara & Michelle Recover from the Asheville Flood
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Scotties,
On September 27, 2024, Asheville, NC, was struck by devastating floods caused by Hurricane Helene. Our dear friends, Cara and Michelle, were directly impacted. Their home suffered damage when a tree fell on it, and their basement flooded. While the damage to the home was thankfully minimal, they are currently without power or gas, and many roads around their area are still impassable, complicating their recovery.
The more significant impact, however, occurred at The Village Potters Clay Center, where Cara’s pottery studio was completely flooded. She lost essential equipment and many pottery pieces she had been preparing to sell. The cost of replacing her lost equipment and materials is significant, and she is currently unable to operate her business.
As Cara shared:
"This community is our whole livelihood, and I stand with all the other small businesses and artists who are vulnerable to these rising waters."
In addition to her pottery business, Cara also runs Cara Mae Skin Care. Unfortunately, due to road closures and the current conditions, she will be unable to fulfill online orders or operate either business for some time, severely impacting their income.
We’re aiming to raise $15,000 to help Cara and Michelle cover the costs of recovery. Here’s what your donations will go toward:
- Replacing Studio Equipment and Supplies: Personal pottery equipment and materials were lost in the flood.
- Covering Studio Rent: Assisting with rent while the studio is being restored.
- Home Repairs: Minor repairs and tree removal, as well as costs associated with pumping out the flooded basement.
- Insurance Deductibles: Covering deductibles related to both their home and studio.
- Lost Income from Cara Mae Skin Care: Supporting them through the temporary loss of income from both businesses.
Any contribution—big or small—will make a huge difference as Cara and Michelle navigate this challenging time. Together, we can help them rebuild their lives and livelihood.
Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and support.
