Help cats with special needs at Maria’s Cathouse

Maria offers life-long sanctuary to cats who would otherwise be euthanised or returned to the streets with little chance of survival.

Aside from her day to day rescues, Maria will take on cats with health conditions (often complex), incurable diseases, disabilities and behavioural issues. All of which make such cats very difficult to place in rescue and almost impossible to rehome.

And it is even harder to rehome cats with special needs in Crete.

Maria has purpose-built enclosures for cats with Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) who very sadly will face declining health and shortened life expectancies. Maria effectively acts as a nurse for these cats, managing their poor health and making sure they have a good quality of life for whatever time remains for them.

By supporting Maria’s Cathouse you are directly helping cats who would otherwise nowhere else to turn. Indeed the municipality often reaches out to Maria with complex cases, like cats which been hit by vehicles, because the only alternative for them is euthanasia or release.

Maria is not worried about taking on feral cats, cats with incontinence, cats who need round the clock medication - she believes that all cats deserve love and patience.
