When they returned to the U.S., doctors uncovered the hidden battle waging inside him: Carlos has Multiple Myeloma, a rare cancer of the plasma cells that weakens bones and attacks the kidneys. His accident wasn’t just bad luck—it was a warning sign that something much worse was happening beneath the surface.

A Life-Altering Diagnosis

Multiple Myeloma is an aggressive cancer that causes the bones to fracture from within and the kidneys to shut down as they struggle to filter out the toxic proteins the cancer produces.

Carlos is still hospitalized at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, where his medical team is working urgently to stabilize him. The road ahead will require intensive treatments, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and possibly a stem cell transplant. While there is no cure, new advancements in medicine offer hope—hope that Carlos can fight for a long, new normal life with Amanda by his side.
