Help Carol Schacherl Rebuild After Explosion
Donation protected
On April 13th, 2025, a home in northwest Austin exploded. This home was the next-door neighbor to my mother, Carol Schacherl, and the blast force blew in the side of her home where she was relaxing in bed. The blast caused the roof to collapse on her and riddled the home with devastating damage. My mom sustained multiple fractures in her upper and lower right arm, a broken clavicle, two broken ribs, multiple facial lacerations, and extreme destruction to her home filled with a lifetime of memories and treasured artifacts.
Since 2021, my mom has been the primary guardian to my father and the love of her life, Bob Schacherl, as he developed Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and had to be admitted into a memory care facility in South Austin. It's been an emotionally draining and financially taxing endeavor to maintain the quality of care my dad deserves. The massive and surprise monetary undertaking of my father's support has compromised retirement plans, and now this tragedy only compounds their depleted resources.
This traumatic situation has torn the sanctuary of her home to shreds, removing a gathering place where our family, along with our 7-year-old twins, enjoyed relaxing, family meals, and swim parties to celebrate the children's birthdays.
We are fundraising to help my mom rebuild her life, cover medical expenses from her injuries and continue to support her husband.
