Help Carrie Fight the Big C
Donation protected
Carrie is 28 years old and has been recently diagnosed with an invasive form of breast cancer. After four long and frustrating months of tests, scans and treatment for what was initially thought to be an infection.
Unfortunately she has been told the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes.
Carrie’s oncologist has stated she requires initially 11 cycles of chemotherapy along with six cycles of a drug called Perjeta.
Perjeta is not currently on the PBS for her condition and is not subsidised in any way for Carrie, therefore the cost of the Perjeta alone will be $15,000.
By adding Perjeta to her treatment regime it will give Carrie a 37% chance of the cancer not returning.
Once the initial 11 cycles over four and a half months have been completed she may need to have another drug at a further cost to her.
She won’t know if the Perjeta has been successful until the full treatment has been completed.
Carrie will also be facing fertility treatments, a mastectomy and further surgical treatments after the chemotherapy is complete.
Carrie is one of the most selfless and caring people I know. Initially she didn’t think she would have the Perjeta treatment, despite the oncologists recommendation due the expense. After some encouragement I have suggested she allow me to set up this page to help relieve the financial burden she is facing and support her in her long road to recovery .
