Help Carvin Restore His Vision & Rebuild His Life

Hi everyone,

My name is Karl Reginald Oquindo, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my best friend, Carvin Oliver Lopez, who is currently in the Philippines. Carvin isn’t just a friend—he’s family. Seeing him struggle through this painful and challenging time has been heartbreaking, and I want to do everything I can to help. But I can’t do it alone, which is why I’m asking for your support.

Carvin’s Story

Carvin is 31 years old, a devoted Christian who gave his life to Jesus at 14, and someone who has always been passionate about fitness, working as a physical trainer. However, his life took a devastating turn when he was diagnosed with a severe mental health condition that has made it nearly impossible for him to maintain a stable income, relationships, or even care for himself properly.

Limited family support yet still providing effort especially the care from his dad—his parents are separated—Carvin has been battling this illness harshly. His condition has worsened over time, leading him down a dangerous path of self-harm as a way to cope. He often injures himself with forms of self-inflicted harm just to calm himself down. Recently, his suffering escalated to the point where he severely damaged his eyesight, leaving him 80% blind in his right eye and 50% blind in his left.

Because of his declining vision and mental health struggles, Carvin is now classified as a Person with Disability (PWD) in the Philippines. Despite his hardships, he continues to hold on to his faith, believing that God is with him through this trial.

Carvin’s Urgent Eye Surgery & Recovery

Carvin is scheduled for retinal detachment surgery at Rizal Medical Hospital, a public hospital in the Philippines. While part of the surgery is covered, we still don’t have a full breakdown of costs, and there are many additional expenses that he’s having difficulties to afford like psychiatric care, medications, and etc.

His right eye has a very low chance of recovery, but his left eye can still be saved—though it depends on proper post-surgery care, medical treatments, and ongoing mental health support

Even after surgery, Carvin will continue to face significant medical and daily expenses with no financial support system in place. He has no steady income, no family to rely on, and no way to sustain himself through this difficult time.

What Carvin Needs

• Post-Surgery Medical Costs: ~30,000 PHP (doctor’s fees + lens) → 830 AUD (520 USD)

• Operation Cost (March 7, 2025): Estimated 150,000 – 180,000 PHP → 4,150 – 5,000 AUD (2,600 – 3,150 USD) (Exact cost TBD)

• Clearance Appointments (April 1): Anesthesiologist & Psychiatrist

• Psychiatry Sessions (6-month minimum): Every 2 weeks, 2,400 PHP per session → 66 AUD (42 USD)

• Medications (Ongoing): 1,200 PHP per week (Risgen, Zolodine, Valproic Acid) → 33 AUD (21 USD)
