Carl and Angela Loy are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Casey Loy.

Casey is my brother who just turned 30. He was involved in a head on collision outside of Atlanta, Georgia, on June 21, 2019. He was transported to Douglas County Hospital outside of Atlanta. Because Casey was unconscious upon arrival, they had to intubate him.  Due to the severity of his injuries, he was flown to Kennestone Hospital, a trauma unit in Marietta, Georgia. Casey’s Vertebrae 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and T1 were fractured. The team of doctors performed surgery on Casey to decompress the discs in his spine. He is paralyzed from his chest down.

July 2- A lot of swelling in the neck and a tracheotomy was performed.

July 9- Casey had the middle and lower lobes (2/3) of his right lung removed, due to infections and pneumonia.

July 22- Pulmonary Team had to revisit the lung removal site. Casey had a large bubble of fluid and air that was collapsing the remaining part of his right lung. Doctors performed a Bronchoscopy, Thoracentesis, and had to place a drain tube in his chest. One and a half liters of fluid were removed.

July 25, 26, 28 and on August 3, 7, 19- Casey had additional Bronchoscopies, due to a large amount of secretions that were blocking the airway to the remaining right lung lobe.

July 26- Casey was moved from the Neuro ICU to the Pulmonary ICU.

July 27- General Surgeons scraped (debridement) a bed sore in the area of his tail bone. They said that it had not tunneled and referred to the Open Wound staff.

August 10- Casey was moved from Pulmonary ICU to Pulmonary IMCU.

August 19- Doctors drained the fluid that was putting pressure on the right lung lobe and placed a drain tube in his chest. The Bronchoscopy and drainage of fluid was performed to keep the lobe from collapsing.

August 29- Casey had the remaining upper lobe of the right lung removed for a total pneumonectomy and moved to ICU 3 North. He has received 14 units of blood since his right lung removal.

September 7- Dr. Miller performed a Video-assisted Thoracic surgery (VATS) to see where the bleeding was coming from. The outcome appears to be very good.

Casey is very alert and aware of his surroundings. He definitely has a "Let's Do It Attitude" working very hard to be able to go to rehab.

Several weeks ago, Casey started having some sensation in his lower extremities after 20 plus days, but still cannot move his legs, feet or fingers. He has good mobility in his right arm and minimal movement in his left arm.

The problem is that, while living in Atlanta and working as an electrician, he was about 30 days away from having health insurance. Casey’s disability insurance is pending. Casey desperately needs to get back home to Florida so that he can start his Physical Rehabilitation. In order for him to be released from Kennestone Regional Hospital in Marietta, Georgia, he will have to be medically transported to the hospital, here in Florida.

The quoted price from Grace on Wings Flight - Total cost - ground transport and gas $10,182. His medical expenses have exceeded 2 million dollars.
