Dear Friends and Community,
I'm reaching out on behalf of my beautiful sister, Cass, a bubbly and resilient 22-year-old archaeology student and swim teacher who recently faced a rare medical emergency. Cass beat the odds and survived an aortic dissection. However unfortunately, because of complications stemming from reduced blood flow and clotting to her lower body, she has become physically disabled, losing her ability to walk. Since February 10th she has been in hospital undergoing intensive medical care and treatment with incredible strength and determination.
Cass's recovery has been difficult. In addition to the aortic dissection, she has endured a week spent in an induced coma, acute kidney failure, an infarction to her spleen, and compartment syndrome in her right leg, which resulted in two fasciotomies, and ten surgeries. At one point, Cass faced the possibility of amputation due to the severity of an infection, which she thankfully overcame. However, there remains a continued risk of amputation due to compromised function and susceptibility to infection. Despite these immense challenges, Cass remains resolute in her determination to regain her mobility and independence.
Unfortunately, Cass's condition has rendered her unable to work, resulting in a loss of income. As she focuses on her rehabilitation and rebuilding her life, she faces significant financial burdens. Your contributions will play a vital role in supporting Cass's journey by funding essential rehabilitation treatments, specialised equipment, modifications to her car and home to accommodate her new needs, medications, and everyday household expenses such as rent, bills, and food.
Furthermore, Cass's living situation may need to be adjusted to ensure accessibility and convenience. Your generosity will help cover the costs associated with relocating to an accessible home, providing her with a supportive environment conducive to her recovery and well-being.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful impact on Cass's life and empower her. Your kindness and support will provide Cass with the resources she needs to overcome this challenging chapter and rebuild her life.
We'll be providing regular updates on Cass's progress and how your contributions are being utilised to support her journey. Your solidarity and compassion mean the world to Cass during this difficult time.
Thank you for considering donating to Cass and for being a source of hope and support as she navigates this difficult time.
Thank you so much,
Steph and Cass
