Help Cat with medical, move, home and petcare fees

Hi, my name is Cat. I HATE to ask for help. I'm very independent until I just can't fend for myself anymore. :( This fundraiser is to provide housing for Cat in LA, CA to facilitate 4 - 5 weekly trips to a local physical therapy office/rehab facility, monthly trips to a surgeon and periodic trips to our attorney's office. In addition it's also to provide housing for 4 service animals, a place close enough for contracted helpers to come help around the house and provide as my disability aids in between their other job/work schedules necessitating it not be far from them. The main helper currently has a key to check on me for medical reasons which also requires I be close to them.

I had a severe spinal injury on 8/15/22. Since then I can barely walk, can't lift anything, can't cook for myself, can't clean up after myself or my pets, and am being evicted due to pending renovations that led to my injuries. I seldom sleep, constantly tired from pain! I am under 8 doctor's care total, PT at Kaiser and a rehab facility, waiting on temp disability but it takes a long time to process. I cannot work unless remotely and back to office mandates nullify that possibility. It also seems everyone wants to work remotely even when physical limitations and location do not dictate that necessary. No one wants to fight LA traffic and that makes more competition for remote positions that do exist in my field or related fields.

I have looked for work, looked for housing, sought dr care and pain management. My Medical is cancelled as of Dec 31st as I showed some work in Jan and received limited disability from July - August. My premiums have to be recalculated based on a projected income which I have not secured yet (disability hopefully through mid Jan) but then will depend on remote work.

I cannot qualify for a place to live unless I make 3 times the rental amount and have good credit. I also need service animals to go with me. We need a 2 bedroom or minimally a 1 bedroom with a den for a guest room, office, bunny room. Mom and perhaps a friend would be guests a couple times a year. I am looking for places with senior activities for her and a friend to have some fun when I can't go with them due to mobility issues or when I'm working. Mom needs airport assistance and should have company. She can travel to see me and a friend coming along would allow for someone to always be with her even if I am at the doctor or rehab while she's visiting. It is very difficult for me to travel by air and find shower facilities with walk in shower with seat. Plus I have to find people to care for my animals while I'm away and find a place where Mom can come visit me in temporary facilities/hotel when I visit her. Much easier to provide for her needs here when she visits. Not sure she'll even visit me after this fiasco with the bathroom, uneven weak floors, no cold water in the kitchen, no hot water in the bathroom, sporadic electric outages, mold, and floods. We need a safer place as Mom would prefer to visit more than once every 6-7 years. The den/office/bunny room would also serve as a place for me to stay when I have company taking my bedroom and a place to work remotely.

Can you possibly help us find a place to live? We need your contributions to do so. Any help is appreciated!!! Truly anything!!!! It is so difficult to live in LA. Trying to do so, support a household, provide a place for 4 pets and me, a disabled person is almost futile. We need your help to qualify for a rental. Eventually when Joseph gets closer to retirement and doesn't have to care for his parents, pay a car note and has some income to contribute he may join us if the commute is not too far to work. That's a big if in LA traffic on the commute distance and may require desert living where the bunnies would have to have an inside enclosure and room to hop. He has to retire at his current job (at least 22 more years before he can retire) to get his pension. If Joseph joins us we'd search for a longer term rental or a house. That is probably a few years off. He is caring for his stepfather who requires being carried from house to car for office visits. translation services for stepfather and mother for their medical needs, and Joseph is currently using a cane to walk himself at times. It's hell getting old for all of us even when we don't have injuries and/or aren't that old!

If you can help locate rentals we're seeking: 1 - 2 bedrooms, 1 to 2 baths, laundry in unit (can't carry anything), no more than $3000 monthly for base rent. Need to pay rent, utilities, food delivery (can't lift anything), pet supply delivery, helper fees to pay for basic cleaning, some laundry, change bed, care for pets, help me get around the house to organize and unpack, and help me with car and logistic issues. Also need to pay for gas to get to physical therapy 4-5 times per week, doctor appointments and attorney appointments. A gym and a pool have been prescribed by my doctor for daily physical therapy at home. I do not have these facilities here. It's a nice to have even though doctor prescribed for a new rental. No stairs or an elevator is needed. Minimal stairs inside is also best. A dishwasher is also an ask as I cannot stand to wash more than 1 dish at a time before having to sit again. AC (central or window units allowed) and heat are high on the wish list. I do not have heat here and no insulation so cooling is basically useless. No gas or no gas leaks are best. I have 4 gas leaks here. No or minimal carpet is best for animal hair pickup. I know a long list of needs/wants and why we need help locating a suitable unit with enough space for furniture and all of us.

I will be working on depositions from Dec 31, 2024 - April 2025. We have a few open case matters within the one big case. Eviction is being stalled with new owner by my attorney until we settle with old owner for at least partial relocation assistance (but he didn't relocate me or even help when I didn't have a bathroom to use for over 2 weeks so not holding my breath on this one), secure a new rental that will allow me to qualify with pets on limited income (disability and some side work) OR new owner repairs pending issues cited by health department and LA city here. In the meantime the new owner and workers have cut my water supply, taken plants (fruits and vegetables), knocked a big jade plant down at roots to block my garage access (where we store boxes to move), damaged my car, had my rental car towed, block dumpster and parking access, use my patio furniture for their food dumping area, and generally are disruptive to any work at home and any access to and from the property to the street where we can find some parking even though it's far to walk. This makes going to PT, dr, and attorney very difficult but I stay as the rent is manageable on little to no income and I am not having to requalify to stay here temporarily. Theresa reminds me it's not safe here with the weak uneven floors, water and gas leaks and the mold but for short term it's the best/only workable solution. This situation will change as I work with my attorney to try to qualify for a new rental. The old owner is disputing any responsibility even disputing written citations by the health department and city. Long story to share why this is a long process, income is in constant flux as I can find a little side work or get a small disability check. We will not get a true picture of what I can qualify for and possibly move until I secure remote work that will allow me time off for PT and dr appointments several times a week or get permanent disability which would probably necessitate assisted living arrangements. My helpers are due money and are also waiting on a settlement payout.
