Help Catherine and Son Through Tough Times
My name is Catherine. And I, along with my 12-year-old son, are in a very tight spot right now. On January 27th, 2025, I obtained a lumbar spinal fracture picking up my father who I care for. For over the last year, he's 75, a veteran, and has early onset Alzheimer's dementia. Since April of 2024, I have acquired a job where if I need to go see about him, I can do so. And currently I cannot work to due to my injury.
The week of the 27th, he fell 8 times. The second time is when I injured my back.
On that Friday, we had to call the ambulance to come get him after he had fallen twice that day. After being in the ICU for 3 days, they said he has a very bad infection in the bone in the heel of his right foot. He had a little surgery, and he is now in a place in Lafayette for the next 4-6 weeks getting IV antibiotics. And I cannot work right now for a few months. And it's a daily struggle to get food for my son. My bills are very minimal as I live with my father. He is on a fixed income, and I'm just looking for any help. I have applied for SNAP/food stamps. I have an interview with them next week. I have been to Christian Services for other help. I have 3 dogs to feed, running out of bathroom tissue, dish soap, laundry detergent, food and everything else. My bills are starting to pile up and are late. I'm so desperate, And I hate asking for help. I know there are those in a worse situation. Like I said, I'm so desperate right now. I just want to feed my son. So for the next 4 months, I will need to come up with a total of $600 to cover those 4 months so I can recover from surgery and get back to taking care of everyone, instead of the other way around.
My son is missing school to help me at home. He is having to help me doordash because I cannot do it alone, and I'm having to force myself because we have nothing right now. And I'm in so much pain.
My cell phone is due tomorrow. My storage is over due. And now my alternator has gone out on my car
causing my battery to overheat.
