Help Catherine Heal: Support Her Long Road to Recovery After a Devastating Accident

On May 16, 2024, Catherine’s life was turned upside down when she was hit by a drunk driver while visiting friends in Vermont. In an instant, this loving, selfless woman, who has always put others first, was left facing a long and painful recovery from life-threatening injuries.

Catherine suffered shattered legs, broken ribs, a broken arm, and severe trauma that led to her being placed under heavy sedation. For weeks, she was unable to speak, eat, or move without the help of a feeding tube, catheter, and a blood clot filtration system.

She has already endured eight surgeries to rebuild her legs, ribs, and arm, and spent a month in an external “X-fix” device just to keep her shattered bones in place between surgeries. And still, the road to recovery is far from over. Catherine is scheduled for her ninth surgery next week, with at least two more ahead—possibly four, depending on how her body responds.

Adding to this already unimaginable burden, Catherine’s medical insurance—Medicare—has severely limited the coverage she needs for her ongoing care. She was forced to leave the hospital prematurely and move to a full-care nursing home over an hour away from her medical team, requiring ambulance transport for every doctor’s visit and treatment. While she needs months more of professional care, Medicare’s 90-day limit on nursing home stays has left her family with no choice but to cover these costs out of pocket, already amounting to $20,000 with no end in sight.

Even more devastating, due to the limits of automobile insurance policies, Catherine’s family has no legal recourse at this time to seek compensation from the driver who caused this tragedy.

Catherine has always been the one to lift others up in times of need. Now, she and her family need us to rally around them. They are facing enormous medical bills and an uncertain future, all while trying to give Catherine the best possible chance at healing and regaining her mobility.
