Help Cathy Cooke crush her breast cancer

In April 2019, we discovered that Cathy had been diagnosed with breast cancer. The news was a shock, but we knew that with Cathy’s fighting spirit, humour and general joie de vie, she would crush her cancer. After 22 weeks of chemo from the 30th May – 7th November 2019, a double mastectomy, and shortly before beginning radiation treatment they discovered she still had some cancer in her body. As it stands the risks of recurrence are high. To give Cathy the best possible position to fight off her cancer and make a healthy recovery, she needs the assistance of a new revolutionary drug. 

This drug can be sourced from various countries but it is not covered by medical aid in South Africa. Cathy’s treatment will include 14 injections of Kadcyla every three weeks. Each injection costs R90, 000.00 – the total cost of this treatment being R1, 256, 000. 00. So, after her initial battle to crush her cancer and a simple crunch of numbers, it will not be possible to cover the medical costs alone. Cathy runs a single income household, raising her two sons with a tight budget. Despite the generous assistance from her work and her medical aid, she cannot manage the medical fees alone.
