Our Dearest Sister, Cathy
Cathy Towle is the oldest of eight children, and with her natural born leadership skills she took on a maternal role for her siblings at a young age. Over the years she had a daughter of her own and is now a grandmother to two beautiful children. She's always been a rock to to those around her, and she so deeply wants to continue on this journey of life for as long as possible, but she needs our help to be able to do everything possible to fight her cancer. As a single woman, she also bears the sole responsibility of her household and living expenses. We are in hopes of her being able to remain in her home of 40 years. A truly compassionate mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend, please join us in supporting her in this difficult time.

Pancreatic Cancer: The Backstory
In September last year, Cathy was diagnosed with stage 1-2 pancreatic cancer. She was told they caught it early and she faced it bravely. For those who know her, Cathy has an unwavering positivity and fight in her. She already beat breast cancer 20 years ago, and she knew she could fight this one too. She embarked on chemotherapy and radiation with high hopes of stopping the cancer from spreading and killing the cancerous tumor. She continued working up until her treatments started and then used her disability insurance. Going through the treatments was difficult, but she always kept her spirits up and felt grateful she would stand a chance due to early detection. She considered herself one of the 'lucky' ones to face this cancer beast.
Things were looking up. Cathy's tumor had shrunk enough that she was eligible for a complex but life-changing surgery to remove the tumor. She went in for 'The Whipple' procedure on May 23rd. It was supposed to be a 10 hour surgery, her daughter set up in the waiting room to be there the second her mom came out. We were all full of hope and standing by for updates. Just an hour into surgery, the doctors saw Cathy's cancer had metastasized to her liver and the procedure would be much too dangerous to perform. She was still under and the news crushed us all.
Pancreatic Cancer: Today
Cathy remains positive. Her profound ability to find a place of calmness and grounding in the midst of this is an inspiration for all around her. In a sense, she's still taking care of us even now. She has been healing from the surgery and facing her current updated status with continued courage, hopefulness and a healthy dose of reality with this devastating news. With the help of family and friends, options are being researched for traditional and natural/holistic treatments, and a possible combination of both. Cathy has an appointment at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and is waiting on additional test results on the tumor. She has been incorporating some natural therapies to build her immune system.

The Costs
The financial burden has been accumulating with medications costing hundreds of dollars each month even with co-pays and getting them through mail order. Cathy had intentions of returning to work, but with her new status she realizes that won't be possible. She needs to focus on her health, survival and family right now, but alternative therapies are costly and not covered by insurance. Quality of life and gaining time is what we are hoping to find for Cathy, along with financial relief. The funds collected will go toward health insurance, alternative care/out of network medical treatment and cost of living expenses.
How You Can Help
Please help us in supporting Cathy by taking some of the burden and worry off her shoulders. She would never be able to ask for this herself, but we have to unite for her. If you are a part of her world, you know her as a person that has always been there for those in her life, whether it is family, friends or her fellow co-workers. Any amount you are able to donate will help beyond what you would imagine. Nothing is too small. If you are unable to donate, please help by sharing this post on Facebook to spread her story. With the support of God, her family, friends, community, and all the thoughts and prayers she can get, Cathy will continue to fight this disease with everything she has.
Thank you to everyone who has already reached out. Cathy has felt very loved and supported by everyone. Our family has so appreciated all the generosity and love she has received from so many people already. The outpouring of love, healing vibes and prayers has been a true reflection of the woman Cathy is. Thank you so much for your generosity.
