Help Cersei Louise Battle Chronic Kidney Disease

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

I never imagined I’d be writing this, but life sometimes calls for community. My beloved Cersei Louise, a 7-year-old Russian Blue, has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 (final stage) Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). This condition is typically seen in senior cats, which makes her diagnosis at this age even more heartbreaking.

Cersei's current treatments are the minimum suggested by her vet and include:
  • Phosphorus binders to help her kidneys process phosphorus,
  • A hunger stimulant with anti-nausea medication to help her appetite,
  • Daily subcutaneous fluids (administered via an IV bag) that act like dialysis to flush her kidneys,
  • Specialized renal wet food for her diet.

These treatments are likely to increase as her condition progresses. Her vet will likely need to add more treatments over time, such as medications to help break down protein in her kidneys, laxatives, stronger probiotics, and antibiotics, as infections are common in cats with CKD and will likely recur.

Additionally, Cersei has been diagnosed with non-regenerative anemia, elevated white blood cell counts, hyperphosphatemia, and electrolyte imbalances. She also has significant protein buildup in her kidneys, which will likely require medication to help manage.

Her care involves regular blood and urine testing every three months ($700), and her daily treatments currently cost around $300 per month. On average, her monthly medical expenses come to $600. Beyond this, her initial diagnostics were $700, and starting her on prescription food and medications cost another $400.

Earlier this year, she also had surgery to remove a mast cell tumor, adding another $2,000 to our veterinary bills. These unexpected expenses, combined with the loss of my male cat last year after his surgery, have been a lot to manage.
Despite everything, Cersei is currently responding well to her treatments. She’s more active, eating, and playing, and the medications are slowing the progression of her disease. My main focus is keeping her safe, comfortable and loved as we navigate this new reality.

I’m doing my best to find supplemental income to support her care, but it's been difficult to find part-time work from home. Cersei requires feedings every couple of hours to help her regain weight, so leaving for extended periods isn’t practical right now.
I’ve already canceled trips and vacations to redirect funds toward her care, although many of my flight expenses were non-refundable and only credited. My top priority is ensuring that Cersei gets the care she needs, but the financial strain has become overwhelming.

That’s why I’m reaching out for help. Whether it’s $2.50 to cover one can of her special food (she eats 2-3 a day) or any other contribution, every bit helps keep her cared for.

Thank you for taking the time to read Cersei’s story. Your support, whether through donations or sharing her GoFundMe page, means the world to us.

With love and gratitude,

Kristi
