Help Chai Recover After a Brutal Dog Attack
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
I don’t often share my personal things online, but today I feel it’s important to not only seek help but also raise awareness within my community. On September 4, 2024, my sweet cat Chai was the victim of a brutal dog attack, and we’re fighting to help her survive and recover.
Chai is an indoor/outdoor cat, and for years, she’s enjoyed resting on our porch or nearby without any problems. However, while I was away for just two hours that morning, two stray, aggressive dogs came onto my porch and attacked her. Chai tried to hide and flee, but the dogs found her. I later saw video footage that showed the heartbreaking scene—after a 15-second gap from the time the hunted her out, the dogs dragged and mauled her, nearly tearing her apart. Thankfully, my elderly neighbor intervened and scared the dogs away. Without her, Chai wouldn’t have survived.
When I returned home around 12:15 pm, I heard Chai’s cries—a sound of pain and desperation I’d never heard before. I rushed her to the ER, where they worked for hours to stabilize her. The vet confirmed that while there was no major internal damage from initial xray reports, Chai had severe puncture wounds to her back leg and was in shock. The following morning, September 5, we brought chai back home to rest. Unfortunately on that evening Chai started to decline, reaching a fever of 106 degrees and became increasingly lethargic and refused to eat or drink. We again rushed Chai to the emergency room to seek additional treatment
So far, we’ve spent $5,000 in emergency veterinary costs, and more treatment will be required to ensure her survival and full recovery. Chai is not just a cat—she’s a fighter who has been with us since she was a 4-month-old kitten, having already survived one attack in her life. She means the world to us, and I want to give her the best chance possible to heal.
I’m incredibly grateful to my neighbor, who stepped in to save Chai. These same dogs have been seen roaming the neighborhood, and they’ve tried to attack other pets and even people. It’s terrifying to think that someone else—an elderly person or a child—could be next. We need to do better as a community to ensure everyone’s safety, pets and people alike.
If you’re able, please consider donating to help cover Chai’s medical expenses and recovery. She is a sweet creature who didn’t deserve any of this. Every bit helps, and we’re deeply appreciative of any support during this difficult time.
Thank you for reading and for any assistance you can offer, whether through donations or by spreading awareness. Let’s make our community safer for everyone.
