Help Chaife Fight Rare Pediatric Cancer

My name is Judith Mosley (aka Jude) and along with my friend Joanie, we are organizing this fundraiser. 

My family and I went to live on the Pacific Island of Guam back in 1994, where we spent 30 years between Guam & Saipan and formed lifelong friends.  It was at that time we met Kate & Kelly Hornbacher & their family, Amy one of their daughters used to babysit for our children!

Amy, her husband Steve & Chaife made a major life decision in June 2024 and moved from Guam to Ohio, where Amy’s parents now live.  This was to finally be closer to her Mom & Dad and several other family members.  

In mid August they moved into their new home, Chaife was excited to start 5th Grade at his new school on August 19th. On August 25th he picked up his new dog Rook (from City Dogs Cleveland Shelter).  He was looking forward to starting his math classes (which he loves), music & building legos.  He’s also a Kansas City Chiefs fan, and an aspiring football player.

On August 30th Amy took Chaife to the medical clinic, to see if she could get some antibiotics for a cough that he had since before leaving Guam. This is where their lives completely changed.

They did a chest X-ray and discovered a large mass in his chest over his lungs which was pushing his heart over to the left side. A biopsy was done and he was diagnosed with a rare cancer called sarcoma. While they determine what type of sarcoma it is, Chaife was immediately admitted to the Pediatrics ICU at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio to start a 3 day round of chemotherapy (which has just been completed). Chemotherapy will now be paused for three weeks, a new scan will be done and his Doctors will repeat/adjust treatments as necessary.

All of their lives have been turned upside down & inside out by this life changing diagnosis, all while trying to settle down to a new way of life, new house, new town, new school & now having to cope with this devastating & totally unexpected illness, which will keep Chaife in the hospital for many weeks at this stage. Please keep this family in your prayers.

We are asking for your help in assisting this family to offset some of the large medical expenses facing them, as Amy will not be able to work as expected in the near future as she spends every day at the hospital.   All and any donations, will be be gratefully received and give some peace of mind as they try to navigate a path that is almost unknown at this stage.
