HELP CHANGE THE LIFE OF A VICTIM OF GUN VIOLENCE

In October of 2017, Arthur Abbey was shot near Locust and Crescent in Davenport, Iowa.
Arthur remembers waking up in the hospital, unable to talk and walk...that was an life changing moment for Arthur and his family. A stray bullet had penetrated Arthur's neck and left Arthur paralyzed from the neck down. Having passed 5 years from the incident, Arthur is still struggling with the fact that he will never again be able to enjoy the activities so many of us take for granted.
Arthur's mother, Anissa Quinn has since left her place of employment to take care of her son Arthur on a full time basis.
“Gun violence is terrible compared to when I was growing up. I've never seen so much gun violence in my life, people don’t really think about it until something happens to a person you love."
Much like any other ordinary fall afternoon, Arthur's mother was on her way to pick her son up from basketball practice...when all of a sudden gunfire erupted. Arthur was immediately transported to Genesis Medical Center and later transferred to Iowa City. Arthur's condition was extremely unstable, Arthur began fighting for his life. Arthur was resuscitated five times, as he drifted between life and death. The doctors told Anissa on several occasions that they feared Arthur would not survive this horrible act. A parent never thinks that something like this would happen to one of their children. Arthur's mother has adjusted to this change in her life, but daily life is still a struggle most of the time.
For Arthur, life without ever again having the ability to simply hold his own children is something that he says he will never be used to. Finding a way to cope financially has also been a struggle for Anissa. Taking over full time care taking responsibilities unfortunately does not pay enough to cover expenses for Arthur, supporting Arthur's siblings along with maintaining the household is almost as if life becomes seemingly impossible.
Despite the challenges, Anissa and the Quinn's have remained steadfast in their faith. The family has come together to rally around Arthur to provide a positive environment, as life without faith and joy is hard to endure.
Anissa has attempted helping Arthur by providing a support animal, a trained German Shepeard that is taught to assist Arthur with many of the mobility issues Arthur faces. Unfortunately these animals are expensive, and the training is even more costly. Along with a desire to provide Arthur with a trained support canine, Anissa would also like to purchase a medical bed designed for those that are paralyzed. Anissa currently needs to make sure Arthur changes positions in his bed to avoid bed sores. The physical aspect of caring for Arthur would be greatly diminished if Arthur's bed was more helpful. Unfortunately, these beds are well over $40,000 and it's vendors do not accept financing.
Although the bed would be a life changer, at this point the family is asking for assistance with the support animal and it's training. With total costs of both totaling well over $60,000...Arthur and his family are simply asking for assistance with these costs by setting their goal at $15,000.
Your donations would be appreciated beyong comprehension. Having this assistance would change the lives of Arthur and his family. Thank you for taking the time to read this page, any contributions would be received with love and thanks.
