Help change the lives of 50 babies!

Hello, my name is Nhung Phan! I am a University of Florida graduate and will be applying to medical school this year. On February 20th, I will be participating in the Miss Vietnam Florida pageant in Orlando. The pageant's chosen charity I am raising money for is Operation Smile!

 

It is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1982 by Dr. William Magee and his wife. The organization is headquartered in Virginia and has operations in over 60 countries. Since the founding of Operation Smile, they have performed over 300,000 surgical corrections of cleft lip and palate congenital conditions.

 

1 in 700 babies are born with this disorder. This disabling birth defect causes significant difficulty in eating, breathing, with high risk of infection, in addition to the pysho-social impact of isolation.

 

Each year the organization performs over 12,000 surgeries worldwide. Operation Smile is very efficient and has made the total cost of surgery for each child only $240. The organization has received excellent ratings from the Better Business Bureau, has partnered with large companies such as Johnson & Johnson, and has received support from President Bush, Kate Hudson, Mark Wahlberg, and other well known celebrities.
