Help Chaplain AJ keep her home

Donation protected

What can we tell you about AJ? She is caring, funny, compassionate, loving and generous. She would give a stranger the shoes off her feet. Her mission and calling in this life is to serve God by serving others as a hospital, hospice and trauma chaplain. Her specialty is helping patients, family and friends on some of the worst days of their lives. She found her calling later in life and left her career in business to earn a Master in Pastoral Care degree with a focus on Health Care and Hospice Chaplaincy. She is also in trouble and needs our help.

In the beginning of March 2020, AJ started to feel unwell, but thought that it was just a bad cold that would not go away. Several weeks later she went to the Emergency Room thinking she would get an antibiotic and go home. Instead she was admitted with sepsis, pneumonia in both lungs, flu A and what the doctors are now saying was Covid. As you probably recall, Covid testing was limited in both availability and accuracy at that time.

She spent nearly a week in the hospital and during her follow up three weeks later it was discovered she still had pneumonia. Her recovery was extremely slow, and while not a Covid long hauler she has not regained all of her energy. During this time, she was also unemployed and uninsured.

AJ is a hard worker. At times she has had 3 jobs at once to make ends meet but it was just too much. She was able to get a forbearance on her mortgage. However, despite frequent interviews she is still searching for a permanent position. Meanwhile, she has been working for various hospitals on an on-call basis, which helps, but does not cover her expenses. The job that she loves as a level one trauma chaplain is coming to an end in the next week.

We are trying to reach a goal of $7,500. Her mortgage forbearance amount is about $4,100 and is due before the end of June, her escrow account is $713 in arrears, she owes the condo association $1,100 and she needs to renew her license plates. Any money collected over her immediate needs will help with her $390 per month mortgage payment, groceries, utilities, etc. until she finds a full-time job. Funds remaining after she finds a permanent position will be given to a charity to help other people who have had similar challenges due to illness.

We are confidant that she will find a job soon and with your help, she will be able to keep her home. We know that she is a great chaplain based on our personal experience with her from when she sat with Rick in the hospital during Angela’s brain surgery and from her visits to Angela while she was recovering. AJ will be a great addition to any hospital or health care organization needing a truly caring chaplain.

Please help a really good person get through some really tough times as she continues to look for work. Any donation which you would make would be greatly appreciated, even if all you can spare is $5. Please join us in our efforts to keep AJ and her cat Iggy in their home.

We thank you for your help. May God bless you.
