Help Charlotte Restart her Life
On August 16, 2020, lightening from a dry thunder storm in Northern California started numerous fires in inaccessible areas in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Even with firefighters doing their best, these fires over weeks grew and combined into a massive fire that has ravished over 130 square miles and destroyed nearly 1,000 homes. At this writing, the fire is still not fully contained.
Charlotte Hampton lost all of her worldly goods that she could not pack into her car with a 10-minute evacuation notice at 4:30AM. She threw in some clothes and grabbed some other items, but had to leave the rest in her rental—tragically, even family heirlooms. Flames were spreading in the trees nearby over her head. She said it sounded like a tornado. For footwear, she ended up with one pair of running shoes and one pair of flip-flops.
What was left of Charlotte's things:
She was able to purchase a hitch for her car and a vintage trailer so she will have a place to stay. She’s parked with hundreds of other evacuees at the county fairgrounds for the time being.
Charlotte isn’t one to be a burden to anyone and isn’t one to ask for anything. But she needs help rebuilding her life. She had some insurance, but it’ll only replace a fraction of what was lost. Monetary donations will go to clothing, appliances, repairs to her trailer (it needs electrical work), rent, food, and other needs.
Charlotte is well known to art materials industry in the Western USA for her work with Village Art Supply, Savoir Faire, MacPherson’s, and Daler-Rowney. She’s currently working as a buyer and customer service for Lenz Arts—retail and the conversations with artists is her love.
