For the ones who do not know me, my name is Chastity LeBlanc. I have worked in Emergency Medical Services for over 25 years, with 20 of those years as a paramedic. I have worked full time, in nursing, for 18 years. My joy, second to the love of the Lord, is found in the serving of others.
My story began as a child, from as far back as I can remember. I experienced a childhood of trauma, abuse of many kinds, and neglect. This childhood adversity turned into years that lasted throughout most of my teenage years. I do not tell this for sympathy of any kind, but to give you a background of what has led up to my health issues today.
This past March 2021, I suffered a heart attack and had to have 2 cardiac stents placed in an 80-90 blocked major vessel. The doctors told my husband and I that I was “a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.” I have never smoked or taken illegal drugs. I have no family history of cardiac disease, have never had high blood pressure, nor high cholesterol. My cardiologist was shocked, as someone of my age doesn’t usually experience this type of serious medical emergency.
I was able to recover within several weeks and return to work. I regained my strength, and was able to run/walk 2-3 miles 5 days a week; however, May 2021 rolled around, and I began experiencing extreme shortness of breath. I have not been able to return to work since. I have been in and out of the hospital several times. I was referred to pulmonology where it has been determined that my lungs are functioning at only 58 percent. I have been diagnosed with moderate to severe restrictive lung disease.
In trying to figure out the cause, especially in someone of my age, I was referred to a neurologist. The neurologist believes that he is 99 percent certain that I have myasthenia gravis, and has started me on an oral medication. My symptoms seem to be rapidly worsening, and we have been told that this is serious.
In researching what we should do next, and how to approach this situation, it has been found that childhood trauma, especially when complex, can cause adults to experience heart attacks, strokes, cancer, and many more diseases at a much higher rate. There is a clinic, Synapse: Center for Health & Healing, in Eagan, Minnesota that is able to deal directly with my health issues and help in the healing process experienced as a child. I have completed my first virtual visit, and they have accepted me to their clinic. This place is full of Christian people including doctors, nutritionists, chiropractors, and many more clinicians who provide care for a wide range of health conditions.
This trip has been prayed about for several months, and the Lord is leading us to make the trip; however, the cost is $15,000. I have been told that due to the complexity of trauma experienced in my childhood, and my current medical conditions, that I will require a full year of treatment. The plan is to start with 6 months of treatment. I have been unable to work at all since developing a disability that prevents me from working. I am currently on oxygen 24/7, have muscle fatigue and weakness, and have been told by several major hospitals that they are unable to provide treatment, as they do not have the means to treat my case.
As for the $15,000 needed, these funds will cover travel expenses, a full week of work-up, testing, and consults. Also, it will cover the first 6 months of treatment, follow-up appointments, and medications that are needed. My first week of treatment has been scheduled for February 6-12, 2022.
