Help Chelsea with Surgery

Diastasis Recti: Please hear my story. Almost 3 years ago I gave birth to twins via emergency C-Section. From this, I have a debilitating case of Diastasis Recti. (Abdominal separation) which no exercise or time could heal. When I approached my family doctor about my symptoms he informed me I had to wait 18 months before he could reffer me to a surgeon to give my body time to heal after the pregnancy. But nothing changed. When I finally met with a local surgeon at Victoria hospital here in London Ont. in December of 2017, I was informed that the surgery was not covered under OHIP. He then referred me to a plastic surgeon who quoted me $8500.00 plus tax for a surgery he agreed needed to be done and should be covered. So for the next year there had not been any more solutions to obtaining funding. I had reached out to our local MPP who sent me a form for my doctor to fill out to request funding from OHIP and they denied my case saying it wasn't medical. My family doctor also reached out to other surgeons, but was not successful. He even tried to see if I would qualify for other surgeries that where Ohip funded in hopes that they could fix my abdominal separation at the same time. But I'm left as is to come up with the funding myself. My life has changed both physically and mentally. I have developed so many problems because of this and I have been suffering every day in pain with no options to help my condition unless I have this surgery. I really shouldn't have to pay for this medical issue I have. I currently cannot work until I can come up with an option to have the surgery, which is hard on our income. I cry every night because I cannot do anything I used to that involves using my core strength. It effects my entire body. I cannot even lay on my back with out my stomach completley opening up. I have been in and out of the hospital and every technician, doctor and a couple of surgeons have all told me I MUST have this surgery done. Once I inform them it's not covered they cannot believe it and are at a loss on how to help me. My family doctor hasn't been able to do anything further for me and trust me has tried everything to help my case. I'm really at a loss. I'm sure there are others suffering. I cannot live like this and knowing it's a fixable condition but is not covered under OHIP breaks my heart and baffles me. I struggle every day and I feel I could do more for my family especially my children if I wasn't suffering from this condition. I dont know how to move forward unless I have this surgery. No physio or exercises have helped me and with my core being so weak and separated it has especially effected my broken coccyx bone, my ribs and back etc. Everything hurts constantly. It just isn't right. If you need a breast reduction done, that's covered. If you now want gender reassignment, that's covered. If you tear your muscles in your arms or legs, that's covered. But if you chose to have a family and tear your abdominal muscles you're supposed to suffer the consequences or come up with almost 10 grand. Anyways, it has taken me a lot of courage to write about my story but feel the need that this issue needs to be addressed given there might be others suffering like myself with this condition as bad as it is. Not everyone has bad abdominal separation but the few cases that do should have full coverage of having their stomach muscles put back together. I finally decided to give up my fight for that I cannot live like this any longer and I was tired of my trips to the hospital. I took out a medical loan and met with the same local surgeon I met with back in 2017. I was informed I needed an even more invasive adomonalplasty. I will be going forward with this surgery for I can no longer live like this. I hope any donations I obtain will go directly towards my medical bill. Once again, it's medically effecting my life and should be OHIP funded in my opinion. Thanks for listening to my story. It's been a challenging couple of years. :( Chelsea K.
