Help Cheryl & Anne Rebuild & Recover After Hurricane Helene
Donation protected
My name is JoAnn Marzocchi Phillips, and I am a proud alumna of St. Mary's Academy Bay View in Rhode Island, Class of 1970. I am posting this GoFundMe for my friend of 50+ years and former Bay View classmate, Cheryl DeCristofaro, who lives in Hendersonville, North Carolina and is officially homeless in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Starting with the good news, Cheryl, Anne, and their two little dogs are safe. Their house and all their possessions within it are not. The house is a total loss. They are officially homeless and have lost EVERYTHING. One large tree fell through the kitchen/dining area, and as they were headed to the basement, one fell through the bedroom. Luckily, the sound of the storm and of trees falling all around woke Anne up, and she got Cheryl up with minutes to spare. They were inside the house when the trees crashed through. The trauma is immense. They spent three nights with angel neighbors Julie and Rainey across the road, who had a generator. Their insurance found them a hotel in Charlotte on day 4 but only for 10 days. In a few days, they will be transitioning to temporary housing until their house is rebuilt. The insurance company has a cap on paying for housing. They have negotiated a monthly rental with friends of theirs who own a vacation rental. They will have it for a few months. After that, they are unsure about what will happen. Fortunately, they were able to get on a local contractor’s list.
Resources and skilled labor are scarce, and needs in the area are enormous. It is going to be a very long road, and they need a great deal of help for those costs not covered by insurance.
Please help if you are able. Any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated. Feel free to ignore the request for a tip.
Thank you in advance.
