Hi friends, family, and other magical humans!
Chess here, excited to share with You all the next step of CJ and I’s little lives. There’s something pretty big happening, and we would so truly appreciate Your support. We’re moving to Los Angeles!
It’s no secret that performance has always been my fondest aspiration, and that up til now I’ve been as scrappy as they come trying to see the life of my dreams come to fruition. After years of scraping by, working jobs that drained my joy, and finally diving head first into my first year supporting myself as an artist, the opportunity to make this happen full time has presented itself! Many of You may know by now that I have been in Los Angeles and working at The Nocturne Theatre in Glendale, California, fabricating and performing in their inaugural season, for the last 6 months. Put a pin in this- we’ll come back to it!
As well, if You know CJ, You likely know he is an astonishingly talented novelist and digital painter, among a plethora of other amazing skills. He has been working in scientific research for the last few years, much to the detriment of his head and heart. After a lot of discussion, we both realized we needed to make a big change to see ourselves pursuing a life where we can not only survive, but thrive.
Flash forward to now. Since coming out here in November, I have worked on an original musical, worked on events featuring the likes of John C Reilly, Hank Green, and Adam Sandler, started development on an Augmented Reality experience for Two Bit Circus, received the biggest callbacks of my life, and booked two Hollywood Fringe Festival Projects. On top of all of this, the opportunity to come on board as both a performing company member and a key prop artisan and scenic painter. This is everything I love, wrapped up in a theatre I am so honoured to have seen off the ground and surrounded by the most loving work family of makers and story tellers. To make matters more amazing, we’ve even secured a dream apartment in an amazing location, and are making it alllll happen.
Now comes the hurdle! We’re set up for success in almost every area, but because I took off work for two weeks to come back to Houston and pack, we are needing some support to cover travel costs for CJ, the kitties, and a U-Haul of our things, as well as to help us acquire the needs that we aren’t taking with us- i.e. most of our furniture.
If You find Yourself feeling generous and You want to support this final push to make the dreams of two big-hearted artists come true, it would mean the world to us. We’re so close to making it all the way, and this little push would make a world of difference for us.
Love You. ☀️ Thanks for reading.
