Help Cheyenne Fund Study Abroad

Hello everyone,
My name is Cheyenne Walker. I am a rising senior political science major, Afro-American studies minor from Harlem, New York. This summer, I have the incredible opportunity to study abroad and participate in a service-learning internship in Ghana’s capital, Accra. I will be able to explore different cultures across the African diaspora while continuing to cultivate my interest in the political sphere through the service-learning internship with organizations like the Women in Law and Development Africa (WILDAF) organization. Ghana, in particular, is the ideal place for me to study because of its rich cultural legacy and long-standing ties to the African diaspora. Studying in Ghana will enrich my knowledge of Africa and its people and provide me with a more nuanced understanding of the opportunities and challenges that the continent faces.
Today I was awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad. While this is an opportunity of a lifetime, I will, unfortunately, be forced to pass it up if I cannot come up with an additional $3,000 to fund this opportunity. During the academic school year, my education is completely funded by scholarships, loans, and grants, however, that funding cannot be applied to summer courses. I am writing today to request assistance with paying for the program. Anything will help!
I have always wanted to study abroad and I have the academic credentials to succeed as a scholar overseas. I have a solid academic history and during my undergraduate education, I have sustained a spot on the Dean’s List for six consecutive semesters. In addition, I have taken part in a variety of extracurricular activities that have assisted me in honing the abilities I need to successfully study abroad. For instance, I volunteered at a domestic violence organization, hold positions of leadership on campus, and continue to improve upon my communication and critical thinking abilities.
I am passionate about political science and Afro-American studies, and I believe that this trip will provide me with a unique opportunity to gain new insights and perspectives that I can bring back to my studies and my community. By donating to my trip, you will not only be helping me achieve my dreams, but you will also be supporting the important work of promoting cultural exchange and understanding between different communities around the world.
