Please Save Chia, a rescue turned emotional support animal

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Chia's story began as a rescue from the streets of La Paz, Mexico, but upon reaching Canada, she was abandoned yet again. When we first met Chia, her eyes told a story of resilience and a longing for love. We immediately felt a connection with her and happily welcomed her into our family.

In no time, Chia became more than a pet - she became a lifeline for my husband, who battles sever anxiety and depression as a neurodivergent individual. Her unwavering affection and calming presence have been his rock through the darkest days.

On April 30th, 2024, our world turned upside down when Chia managed to slip out our building during a maintenance check. We searched the entire area and nearby trails where we would take her on morning walks and runs, laying out our clothes, hoping the scent would lead Chia back home. Our search continued for over 24 hours. Every second was agonizing and we were just hoping that Chia was safe and that we would find her soon.

Then our worst nightmare happened - Chia had been hit by a car. The heartbreak we felt was unimaginable.

A Good Samaritan found Chia on the side of the road, injured and alone. Chia was immediately taken to the hospital, but her injuries were severe, and the doctors weren't sure if she would make it. She had serious head trauma, internal bleeding, a collapsed lung, and was on oxygen support. Our hearts broke all over again and we begged for a miracle for our Chia.

But Chia knew her story was not yet over - and she knew how much we needed her in our lives. Her body was broken, but her spirit was not. Chia fought for her life, and we got our miracle: Chia was alive!

We were able to take Chia home last night, and she immediately went to her bed and fell asleep. She was just happy to be home.

This is only the beginning of Chia's road to recovery - she needs to take medicine almost every hour of every day for the next few weeks, but my husband and I are committed to seeing her through this difficult journey and making sure she receives all the love, care, and support she needs to heal.

We've poured everything we have into Chia's care, but the financial burden is overwhelming. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a world of difference in Chia's healing journey. Your support means not just financial relief, but also a lifeline for a beloved member of our family - a testament to the power of love and community.

Chia continues to fight everyday for her life. Please help us in this fight.

Thank you for being a part of Chia's story and for standing with us in this challenging time.

With gratitude,
Daniela and Alfonso
