Chris is doing okay but still needs your help

I am writing on behalf of Chris who wants you to know he appreciates everything you have done so far. The fact is he cannot ask for help himself and this is very frustrating for him.

Chris will be 42 in May. He suffered a traumatic brain injury on 7th September 2016. In the years since then, he has been on the long, long road to recovery.

Chris has several conditions resulting from the brain injury in 2016, including seizure disorder, hydrocephalus (known as water on the brain), homonymous hemianopsia (a vision condition), global aphasia (a restricted speech condition), weakness in the right leg and almost complete paralysis of the right arm. He also underwent a craniectomy to reshape his skull. He also has a newly diagnosed condition called hyperacusis in his right ear. The assessment which he had to pay for himself recommends ear plugs on a regular basis.

Due to these challenges, Chris has had to face now more than seven years of being unable to work or lead a normal everyday life. However, as his support team, we have not given up and try to motivate Chris to think ahead and make a better future for himself. A big ask!

Chris has had to pause his sessions with a neuro-physiotherapist due to lack of funds. Treatment costs $150 per session, once weekly.

Chris has been paying for his own speech therapy. Although the cost is reduced due to his low income it still costs around $120 per week. Chris says his ability to speak is so much better but more work to be done.

Chris does not have very much money at all. He receives CPP Disability which is lower than the BC Person With Disability (PWD) minimum amount. He is therefore 'topped up' by the BC Government. Paying rent eats up 35% of his income.
