Help Chris Walk Again and Avoid Homelessness!

Christopher is a bright soul who unfortunately, on December 26 2020, attempted suicide via overdose after battling bipolar depression complicated by his Aspergers. He had sought help many times before the attempt. Just two weeks prior, he had been turned away from an ER, who had deemed him a “low suicide risk”, even after he told them that he was feeling suicidal. It was an extremely unfortunate situation where Christopher’s cries for help just weren’t heard. Our mother, who had left the household months before, was off having an affair and pursuing a drug addiction. Our alcoholic father left the family home to move in with his girlfriend soon after our mother left. I, Christopher’s brother, was living in Colorado with my Girlfriend Beth at the time. I was regretfully not aware of how bad things really were for my brother.
Christopher’s overdose left him in a coma for two months. He had to endure months of dialysis for kidney failure, fight off serotonin syndrome, deal with a C Diff infection which resulted in a total colon removal and ileostomy placement, fight sepsis, and endure the development of several stage 4 bed sores. He had remained hospitalized until July and was discharged home with critical illness polyneuropathy, chronic hypercaepnic respiratory failure, an ileostomy, a tracheostomy, ventilator dependence, and the inability to move or use his legs at all.
Home health care for Christopher has been full of many challenges. Beth and I have been solely responsible for his care due to my parents inability and the insurances inability to cover basic needs. Our insurance will not cover a home health aid. We are responsible for 24/7 nursing care to keep Christopher alive. A nurse comes to the house once a week. Insurance will also only cover a total of 25 PT/OT/ and Speech visits a YEAR. Christopher has come so far and his main limitation now is his inability to pay for further treatment. He has a chance at full recovery, including walking, but money is a huge obstacle.
Unfortunately, due to our parents divorce, the family home in which we are currently in needs to be vacated, and soon. Dealing with both our parents abusive behavior has also done nothing but make our care for Christopher harder to cary out. Beth and I have been unable to work because of caring for Christopher. We went through all of our savings and investments to be able to be here for him, totaling more than $25,000. He is still Medicaid pending based on social security’s decision, and right now we have no means to be able to pay for basic expenses such as rent, utilities, medications, food, and copays.
We are at the end of our rope at this point. We are out of money and on the verge of homelessness, just as Christopher is on the precipice of recovery. Any help would be more than greatly appreciated.
Any funds raised will be used to obtain a place to stay, cover basic necessities, and pay for healthcare. Our hope is to be able to make it to the point where Christopher is on social security disability and taking college classes, and Beth and I are working. Thanks for taking the time to hear our story. :)
