Help Christine, mother/grandmother get treatment

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Alicia Jackson, I am 24 years old and I am raising money for my mom, Christine Jackson, whom is a mother of two daughters and one son as well as two grandchildren.

Her Story...

Over the past two years, my mothers health has begun to decrease as well as her quality of life. Her story begins one terrifying afternoon at work. It was like any other day, except this day as she stood behind the counter at the local convenience store (Needs) in her home town Westville, Nova Scotia, her lower legs and her feet went completely numb and began to burn painfully.

This took place in August 2017. Christine had multiple appointments with our family doctor, who provided her with no definite answers.

In October 2017, unable to bare the pain and having great difficulty standing or walking, Christine was forced to go off work on sick benefits. When her sick benefits were finished, she was temporarily on unemployment.

She was no longer provided with any assistance come March  2018, and she attempted to go back to work with minimum hours per week. The only shifts that were available to her during this time were night shifts, which required a great deal of heavy lifting as well as cleaning. Feeling defeated and unable to perform her duties at work, once again she left her Job at Needs in May 2018. From May - July 2018 she was unemployed.

In July 2018, Christine began working at Foodland (a small grocery store in Westville, Nova Scotia). She struggled there as well, but feeling as though she had no other way to support herself and no other options she continued to persevere through the pain day after day and continued working until she absolutely could not. She left her Job at Foodland in December 2018. My mother has been without a permanent job and struggling everyday since.

Her appointments...

December 2017:
Dr. Mujoomdar at the Thoracic Clinic

February 2018:
Dr. Ian Grant at the EEG EMG Lab for testing of the nerves and muscles

May 2018:
Dr. David Alexander at the Orthopedic Clinic

October 2018:
Dr. Sean Christie

Throughout this entire time, multiple appointments with our family doctor as well as her other Specialist, Dr. Shat Shat, who she sees regarding her Systemic Lupus which she has had for 20 years. Also she has had X-Rays, Blood work, two CAT Scans and an MRI.

Her hope for Treatment...

In her final appointment with Dr. Sean Christie she finally got an answer, she is believed to have a herniated disk as well as a pinched nerve, which can also lead to a condition called “Peripheral Neuropathy”, which explains all of her symptoms. She was told the only option to fix it is a surgery on her spine, which at age 54, and with an auto immune disease (systemic lupus) is extremely dangerous and not recommended as it could leave her paralyzed or worse...  This is not an option.

However, we have not lost hope yet..

Christine recently attended a seminar in Halifax, Nova Scotia, that discussed Peripheral Neuropathy. In this seminar she gained information about the condition as well as an opportunity for a treatment in the United States. Essentially the treatment is regenerative medicine, specifically Stem Cell Therapy. This is a small non-invasive procedure that involves injection of Stem Cells. This procedure has not yet been approved in Canada.

Any person who attended the seminar was offered an opportunity, which consisted of free air fare to and from the clinic in the US, as well as free X-rays/Exams, and a free consultation with no obligation to obtain the treatment should they be a viable candidate.

Ill be perfectly honest. I’ve done my research, I have high hopes, but I don’t know if she will be a suitable candidate or if this will even make her better. At this point, she’s already been told by the doctors in Nova Scotia that she has no options left. I could never forgive myself if I didn't do everything within my power to grab any opportunity that comes along, to give my mom back her life again. I want to enjoy adventures with my mom, I want to be able to walk on the beach with her, I want to see her chasing her grandkids around without wincing in pain every second. I want her to support herself and feel independent.

My moms feet have been numb and on fire for two years, I just want to see her suffering end.

This treatment will cost $6880.00, plus the cost of a passport for her to travel to the US.

She has the consultation appointment booked for July 26th, 2019. At this appointment she will have to decide if she will have the treatment or not.

Please, I ask you on behalf of my grandparents, my aunts and uncles, my sister and my brother, her grandchildren, my entire family and myself. If you can donate even $1 to my mom, every cent counts.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this, all I can say is whoever you are, wherever you are, you will forever be in my heart.

Sincerely,

Alicia Jackson.
